Thalassaemia is an inherited genetic blood disorder that occurs due to certain genetic mutations in the globin chains.

Globin binds with iron to form the haemoglobin  which is the essential component of the red blood cells that carries oxygen from lungs to all the body tissues and carbon dioxide from the tissues to the lungs.

A defect in haemoglobin formation leads to abnormal Red blood cells that break down readily and depending on the type and severity of mutations it could lead to severe Anemia in the body that requires the blood transfusion.

A True story that I witnessed. While studying medicine during her professional studies she never thought of a disease named Thalassaemia major could affect her own beloved son in future. .
